About Us

African Education Aid:

African Education Aid was set up on the 26th of March 2012, by students from Kirk Hallam School as we wanted to make a difference. We watched a video in lesson about education in Africa this inspired us to make a difference.

As a group we thought that we could make a difference by providing the basic things a school needs to operate to bring them up to standard such as fixing the roof at the school in Malawi basic like that as well providing the basic equipment such as Books, Rulers, Pens and Pencils.

In Malawi only 1/3 of children attend primary school, so we want to make going to school a good experience so children will keep going and get good levels in their test when they reach standard 8.

In addition we want to build teachers houses, so more teachers teach at the school as you have to provide accommodation for the teachers in Malawi. At the moment the student to teacher ratio is 60+ Students to 1 Teacher which is very high compared to what it is in Britain where its approximately 30 Students to 1 Teacher. At the moment there are 360 students which attend Jandalala Primary School.

So far as an organisation we have raised over £7000. This has allowed us to do many things which included; the redecoration of classrooms with Block 2, the repair of the roof in Block 2, the sending of over 550 football items as a present for students and for physical education, the sending of over 1000 books to be used by staff and students and be stored in the new Mwanza-Gola Layibulare along with a staff room and storage room.

We have also received Derbyshire Young Achievers Awards for our efforts and at the end of 2012 we joined partners with The Every Last Drop Foundation where  we join forces to repair the roof on Block 2 at Jandalala Primary School and the inside of Classrooms, we also added windows and doors to the old block to make the building safe and secure this also allowed us to set up a joint link to Sir Dembo's as thats the school Every Last Drop are focusing on. As a joint organisation the Africa Education Aid focus' on the needs of Jandalala Primary in Malawi whereas The Every Last Drop Foundation focus' on the Sir Dembo's Primary in The Gambia.
